Steps
Every facial should start off with a brief consultation. This should include any skin concerns, what types of food you eat, if you drink enough water and so on. Next, is the preparation phase. Depending on what type of facial you are receiving, your esthetician will provide you with a wrap and ask you to undress to your comfort level. Once you do so, you can slide into the sheets and wait. Now comes the fun part:
- Cleansing
Your esthetician will wrap your hair with a towel and then use cotton pads or sponges to remove any product or makeup from your face. - Skin Analysis
Using a bright, magnifying lamp, your esthetician will examine your skin and determine what types of products are appropriate for you. For example, if your skin is dry or oily, sensitive or normal. Conditions may include aging, sun damage, acne, blackheads and so on. - Steam
Using warm steam vapors can help relax your skin and prepare your face for the facial. - Exfoliation
Many estheticians use either a mechanical or chemical exfoliant to remove dead skin cells from the surface. - Extractions
This is not always performed during a facial but if and when needed, this step includes the removal of blackheads or whiteheads. - Massage and Masks
